Edward H Painter

Edward H. Painter, 97, of Layton Utah passed away peacefully on May 5, 2022. He was born in Oakland California in 1924, served in the U.S. Army during the end of World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1945. While in the military, he worked as a cook when stationed Hawaii. On September 7, 1943, he married LaFae, and they were married for 76 years before her passing. Their marriage was solemnized in the St. George temple on September 7, 1954, and together they raised seven children in California.

Ed spent his career as a truck driver and a business agent for Teamsters Local 70 where he represented workers and resolved their employment grievances while organizing non-represented employees so they would have a seat at the contract table. A highlight of his career was appearing on national television while disagreeing with then President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Jimmy Hoffa.  In 1980, Ed retired and moved to Spring City, Utah. He and LaFae built a home on thirty-plus acres and called it the Peaceful Valley Ranch.  During the 37 years they lived in Spring City, Ed gardened, watched birds, raised sheep, and became interested local politics. He also served as an Ordinance worker in the Manti Temple and as a High Priest Group Leader for many years. During their declining years, Ed and LaFae moved in with their daughter Pam in Layton

Edward is survived by his sister Muriel Rosenthal (David) of Santa Cruz, California, his children Linda Loveland of Idaho Falls Idaho,  Nancy Drummond (Gregory) of Hoschton, Georgia, Edward H.E. Painter (Cynthia) of Provo Utah, Pamela Hadlock (Mark) of Layton, Utah and son-in-law Chuck Ferguson of Sandy, Utah. He also leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.  His wife LaFae preceded him in death as well as his daughters Paula Ann Painter, Cynthia Diane Painter, and Susan LaFae Ferguson.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday May 14 at the Layton II Ward Chapel at 400 South, 2200 West, Layton, Utah 84041. Viewing will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral. Internment will be at the Spring City Cemetery.
