Edith Mathews Nordquist, 87 died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Legacy House in Ogden of causes incident to age. She was born June 2, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Vera Monroe and Bruce Reid Mathews. She was married to John Frank Nordquist, November 20, 1942. Edith attended Salt Lake City schools, graduating from South High School in 1938. She attended the University of Utah, graduating in 1942 with a BS degree in Elementary Education. It was at the &qoute;U&qoute; that she met her husband Frank, and many dear friends. She taught first grade at Centerville Elementary in the Davis School District for 20 years. She enjoyed teaching and loved the children in her classes. It was at Centerville Elementary she made many dear friends who have maintained a close friendship throughout their retirement years. Edith considered education to be very important, and encouraged her sons to always do well in school. She loved to travel with her husband &qoute;Nordy&qoute; and family, and traveled extensively around the world. She loved to attend her son’s and grandsons athletic contests at Bountiful High, the University of Utah and Ogden High School. Edith lived in the family home in Bountiful for over 50 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and loved to attend Seminary during her high school years. She was so proud to say that her seminary teacher was Gordon B. Hinckley. She loved and appreciated her dear neighbors and friends who helped her in her declining years. Edith excelled in homemaking, cooking and loving and supporting her husband and family. Edith is survived by three sons; John Stacy of North Carolina, Dave Ilene of Ogden and Craig of Salt Lake City, one sister; Carma Dick Brimley, Bountiful, Eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband J. Frank and brother W.R. Mathews of California. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 1, 2008 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful where friends and family may call Friday evening from 6 to 8pm and Saturday one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Bountiful Cemetery. Special thanks to the staff of Legacy House in Ogden and Alpine Hospice for their loving care.
