Dorothy Romney Wright Chapin

d. December 2, 2007

Dorothy Ann Romney Wright Chapin left this earthly existence on December 2, 2007. Born on April 12, 1917, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Dorothy was the oldest of four children born to Leona Hamlin and Orson Douglas Romney, Jr. She had a beautiful smile, sparkling blue eyes, and a warm heart. She was a true beauty, inside and out, and was loved greatly by those who knew her. A resident of Salt Lake for most of her life, Dorothy attended East High School and graduated from the University of Utah with a BS in nutrition. While at the university, she was in the Chi Omega Sorority and made life-long friends. The ?Knitters? have remained friends for over 70 years. She married Robert Hartley ?Bob? Wright on May 26, 1939. They later ?eloped? to the Logan Temple in August 1964. During Bob?s FBI career, they traveled throughout the U.S., finally settling back in Salt Lake. Dorothy worked at ZCMI and for Bonneville International. Bob died in 1968, and in 1972, Dorothy married Ralph Chapin, expanding her family circle to include Ralph?s daughter and son-in-law, John and Judy Wadsworth, and their beautiful family. Dorothy and Ralph moved to Maple Hills in Bountiful in 1976, where she enjoyed many lasting and deep friendships with her wonderful and devoted neighbors and ward members. Dorothy was an example of service in her caring for Ralph, who died in 1993. She was active in the LDS Church, serving in the Primary and the Relief Society. Dorothy?s many friends would describe her as adorable, warm, charming, talented and loving, and as having an incredible sense of humor; her family would add that she had a special sparkle and more than average common sense. She was happy and positive and knew how to make others feel happy. Her family was her greatest love. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Bob and Ralph, a brother William H. Romney and a sister Joan Burgoyne, and her grandson Jeff Wadsworth. She is survived by her children Judith and Norm ?Tony? Christensen North Salt Lake, Barbara and Timothy Lloyd Columbus, Ohio, Robert Hartley and Alison Wright Salt Lake City, and Judy and John Wadsworth Bountiful; her sister Geraldine Shearer, her sister-in-law Janet Romney, her brother-in-law Edwin Burgoyne; by 16 grandchildren and by many great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, companion, neighbor, and friend; her passing leaves a void in the hearts of the lives she touched. She will be missed always by those with the great good fortune to have had her in their lives. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 11:00 a.m. at Mueller Park 8th Ward, 1975 South 1320 East, Bountiful. Visitation hours: Tuesday, December 4, 7-9:00 p.m., Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful; Wednesday, December 5, 9:30-10:30, Mueller Park Ward.
