Her brother Noel Ray was born 5 years later. Their mother died in March 1937 and 18 months later their father married Martha Peterson Beddoes, a young widow. After 19 months of marriage Ernest died of a stroke leaving Martha to raise 9 year-old Dorothy and 4 year-old Ray. Martha was a wonderful mother to them. She worked in branches at Spanish Fork, Payson and Delta. In 1954 she moved to Salt Lake where she lived in the Beehive house and worked as a secretary for Walker Bank. While living there she met James Alden Richins from Henefer, Utah, on a blind date. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple, Oct 14, 1955. They first lived in Provo where Dorothy worked at BYU Employment Bureau until Alden graduated from BYU in 1957 and obtained employment with The Seminaries and Institutes program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which, over a period of 38 years, took them to Duchesne, Coalville, Manti, Davis County, Ogden Institute, Jerusalem, Hong Kong and a CES mission in Johannesburg, South Africa, from which they served throughout the continent. Dorothy worked as a secretary at Hogan and Tingey Construction for several years. Dorothy and Alden also served a Farm Management mission and a mission to Alabama Birmingham and loved serving together in the Bountiful Temple in recent years.
Dorothy was a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ and devoted to her husband, accompanying him throughout the world and brightening lives wherever she went. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was strong in her convictions and humble in her attitude.
