Dick G Geisler

January 13, 1928 — June 15, 2022

Dick G. Geisler loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, uncle, brother and friend passed away peacefully in his home in Layton, Utah, on June 15, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Dick was born on Friday, January 13, 1928, in Rigby, Idaho – a day he always said was his lucky day.  His parents were Oscar and Ada Geisler.  Dick’s mother, Ada, was a petite 4’11” and gave birth to a 13.5-pound baby boy in her home in the middle of an Idaho winter.

Dick grew up with his parents, older brother Blair and his baby brother Burl in that small farm house earning their living on the land.  From a young age, Dick learned the value and, in his case, the necessity of hard work to survive.

Dick went to school in Rigby, Idaho, culminating in graduating from Rigby High School as the student body president and captain of the football and basketball teams.  He attended the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho on basketball scholarship where he received a degree in Animal Husbandry and Business.

When Dick was 15 years old, he saw Rita for the first time and said, “That’s for me!” Rita was equally smitten and at that moment began a 77-year love affair.  Dick and Rita were blessed with four children: Tari, Mike, Ron and Seth.

After marriage, Dick worked in Chicago doing veterinary work and soon decided that business was the preferred avenue for employment and the couple moved back to Idaho to start in the business world.

Dick partnered with Dale Hancock and started Cowboy Oil Company in Pocatello, Idaho, where the two of them created a successful petroleum and gas station business that spanned from Boise, Idaho to Salt Lake City to Elko, Nevada.

Dick was a tremendous father and was the good example every young child should have.  Dick and Rita suffered the loss of three of their children: Ron, Mike and Tari.  Dick used work to cope with this loss and was the hardest working person we all knew.

Dick and Rita had six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.  Dick or “Papa” loved his grandchildren and everyone was convinced that they were his favorite.  Dick loved his grandchildren and would spend time doing his rootily-doot foot rides and his “skooma-haste” (Danish milking song) to all the kids and babies.  He was beloved by all and loved his grandchildren so much.

Dick had a nose for business and real estate.  He believed that your word was your bond and was always upright and moral in his work.  While he was a very successful businessman, he was also very generous to anyone who needed help.  He would give aid when needed and then would insist that his generous contributions be anonymous.  He never wanted the credit and would prefer to remain outside of the attention of others.

Dick lived great and loved great.  Dick was a lifelong friend to everyone and enjoyed visiting with people.  When we traveled, Dick would always see someone he knew from Rigby and an entire afternoon of visiting would commence.

Dick was preceded in death by both of his parents, his older Brother Blair, his children Ron, Mike and Tari, and his soulmate wife, Rita.  He is survived by his brother, Burl (Barbara) and his youngest son, Seth (Andrea), grandchildren, Erin Kate Estes, Ronee Lorraine Draayer, Connor Seth Geisler (Carly), Ally Sargent (Colt), Ethan Michael Geisler, and Tessa Geisler, four great-grandchildren, Sierra Gates Boman (Stockton), Tristan Kai Draayer, Jaxton Gage Draayer, and Trey Colton Sargent.  One great-great grandson, Jeter Boman.
