Dennis Lee Stephens

October 8, 1939 — April 18, 2021

Dennis Lee Stephens, a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 18th, 2021.
Dennis was born October 8th, 1939 in Ogden, Utah to Marcus and Helen Stephens, the oldest of four children. At the young age of three, he was diagnosed with polio and endured health issues the rest of his life.
He graduated from Ogden High School, attended Weber State College, and Salt Lake School of Electronics.
He was involved with helping his father at the Movie Theatre in Ogden and North Star Drive-In. His last job was for LDS Hospital as a boiler engineer at the power plant where he worked around 23 years.
A prior marriage to Frances A. Murray brought three beautiful children into his life — Candy, Mike, and Chris. Later, a marriage to Barbara E. Baker brought four more beautiful children — Corbin, Quentin, Dallin, and Shlenae.
Dennis had a passion for many hobbies which included photography, collecting knives, leather work, and refurbishing wood furniture — his most prized one was restoring a dilapidated piano into a beautiful red one. How he also loved music! He composed over 60 songs for piano and guitar. He played by ear. When two of his sons were attempting to learn violin, he went out and bought himself one and had fun with it. He also had a great love for the harmonica. Dennis wrote, sang, and played a song for his wife Barbara at their wedding reception. Once, he met President Spencer W. Kimball. He was so touched by that experience that he came home and wrote music about it.
Dennis loved to read the scriptures and once typed up an eleven page testimony of his love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He strived hard to read a chapter out of all four standard works every day. He has been such a good example in wanting to be obedient and follow Christ.
Dennis is preceded in death by his son Michael (wife Jamie), his parents Marcus and Helen Stephens, and granddaughter Sasha. He is survived by his wife Barbara and his children: Candy (Curtiss) Jackson, Chris (Wendy) Stephens, Quentin (Kellie) Stephens, Corbin (Nikki) Stephens, Dallin Stephens, Shlenae (Ben) McBride, and siblings: Dale (Sharon) Stephens, Susan Lindquist, and Richard (Tami) Stephens. He is blessed with 22 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
We are especially grateful for the Elevation Hospice staff, Lakeview Hospital staff, Russon Brothers, and the Memorial Lakeview Cemetery staff.
