David Gerald Jorgensen

September 29, 1944 — October 25, 2021

David Gerald Jorgensen passed away on October 25, 2021.  He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 29, 1944, and was raised by his parents, Jack R. and Jean Jameson Jorgensen in Midvale, Utah.  He was an active young man and loved all sports, especially fishing, basketball and he was an avid golfer.  His church basketball team took 6th place in the old All Church Basketball Tournament, he was the MVP, and his dad was the coach.  He was an Eagle Scout.  His greatest passion from a young age was reading and writing.  He was a great collector of all types of literature, an insatiable bibliophile.  You never saw him in his adult life without a book.  He was active in his community and school politics and was Senior Class President and represented his school at Boy’s State.  He graduated from Jordan High School in 1962.  He attended the University of Utah and graduated with a degree in history and political science.  Additionally, he was the President of the Salt Lake City Jaycees for several years.  His career continued in community/politics as an assistant administrator, city administrator in various cities, including Salt Lake City, Utah; Atascadero, California; Conejo Parks and Recreation District, California; Midvale, Utah; Fruit Heights, Utah, and others.  He was highly respected and well liked.  He had a gift for writing, and he wrote many speeches for political candidates and managers in his various jobs.

David married Ann Nielsen in 1963 and they had two wonderful children, Leslee and Patrick.  They were later divorced.  He married Sylvia Smith, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.  They have been married for 43 years.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints David served in many capacities including several bishoprics, teacher, and scouting.  He served a mission with his wife Sylvia at BYU Idaho in Rexburg assisting in opening the Internship and Career Services Office.  In his later years, he worked with the city of Midvale to form the Midvale Historical Museum.

David was preceded in death by his parents Jack R. and Jean Jameson Jorgensen.

He is survived by his wife Sylvia; daughter Leslee and son Patrick (Jennifer); two granddaughters Julianne and Dillen Jorgensen; sisters and brother Kathy (Merril) Littlewood; Janis (Al) Cardenas; Kevin (Jeri) Jorgensen; Kerrie (Jeff) Clark; Julie (Skip) Clavell; many nieces and nephews; numerous cousins and his 101-year-old Aunt Mary Jorgensen.

Funeral services will be held on November 4, 2021, at 1:00 PM, Fruit Heights 3rd Ward, 170 North Mountain Road, Fruit Heights, Utah.  Viewings will be held Wednesday, November 3, 2021, from 6:00 to 8 :00 PM at Russon Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street, Farmington, Utah and on Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 11:30 to 12:30 PM the the Fruit Heights 3rd Ward.

Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Diabetes Association, “Donate in Memory” of David G. Jorgensen.
