Damon Victor Hugoe

September 12, 1955 — May 8, 2022

Damon Victor Hugoe passed away on May 8, 2022, after a tragic accident at his home in Island Park, Idaho- his little piece of heaven on earth.

Damon was born to Anthony John Victor and Barbara Mary (Dilks) Hugoe on September 12, 1955. He was the oldest of 6 children. He attended Viewmont High School and graduated in 1973. During high school and after graduation he worked in his dad’s construction business. In 1975, he began working at Phillips Oil Refinery in Woods Cross, retiring in 2004. Then in 1979, while still working at the refinery, he began Hugoe Trucking with only one dump truck.

Despite many hours of hard work, Damon managed to find time to meet the love of his life, Debbie Hughes. They were married on January 16, 1981. Damon and Debbie worked side by side raising 6 children and growing Hugoe Trucking, Inc. into what it is today. In 1995, they purchased property in Island Park, Idaho. This property became their family sanctuary, which eventually grew into what he referred to as the “family camp” where they would entertain large groups of family and friends. There were many times when the dogs outnumbered the people enjoying the property. After his retirement, Island Park became their second home where he and Debbie spent precious time together cooking, entertaining, gardening, and woodworking.

Damon was loved greatly by everyone he knew. He was very personable and loved spending time visiting with others. He was a great storyteller, with a memorable and contagious belly laugh. He was known to strike up conversations with complete strangers wherever he went and always left them saying, “Hope you have a better day.” He spent his life working hard but also enjoying life. He loved Kenworth trucks, Harley Davidsons, traveling with his sweetheart to concerts and music festivals, his beloved dogs, gardening, and working in his woodshop. He was an enthusiastic music lover… the goofier the music, the more he loved it. His favorite pastime was kicking back listening to his jukebox and sharing his diverse taste in music with everyone he loved. He was also an excellent cook, humorously known as Chef Damón.

Damon loved his family. He was a great father and husband. He and Debbie just celebrated 41 years of marriage. He was very proud of each of his children. He taught them the importance of hard work, among many other things. He exemplified this trait in both his words and actions. He was always there for his children, to lend a hand or offer advice to them.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie (Hughes) Hugoe. His six children: Stephanie Hugoe Dalton (Errin), Jennifer Hugoe, Rebecca Hugoe Peck, Amber Hugoe, Cody Hugoe (Shelby Hilton), and Chelsea Hugoe Atkin (Jeremy). His mother, Barbara Hugoe. His siblings: Caroline Schroeder, Lee Hugoe (Jodi), Virginia Benard (Jay), and Sean Hugoe (Mary Kelsey). Father-in-law Glenn E. Hughes; brothers-in-law Scott Hughes (Tania) and Todd Hughes; sisters-in-law Kim Barker (Bob) and Karyn Salerno, (son-in-law, Donny H Peck III). Grandchildren: Alex, Ashlee, Donny, Alivia, Sophie, Jack, Auston, Shelbie, Londyn, Beckett, Bentley, and Lyla. His faithful puppy dogs, Muzzie and Josie. As well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family, great longtime friends, loyal employees, and business relationships.

He is preceded in death by his dad, Anthony (Tony) Hugoe; his brother, Wade Hugoe; Mother-In-Law Patricia Wagner; Uncle Bob Dilks; Aunt Lorretta “Hugoe” Horrocks and his grandparents; As well as his precious Bichons, Ali, Milee, and many other Hugoe dogs.
