Charles C. (Chuck) Swallow

November 7, 1943 — February 28, 2021

Charles C. (Chuck) Swallow, age 77, left this earthly life Sunday February 28, 2021. Although the heart surgeon tried to save his life there was just too much damage.

Chuck served several years in the United States Air Force on the Atlas Missile Squadron in Oklahoma. He worked in the underground missile site in the early 1960’s.

He met Billie, the love of his life, and they soon married. Upon leaving the Air Force they moved to Utah and never left.

Chuck has always been Billie’s protector. His first priority was her well-being and happiness.

His first job in Utah was working for the Optical Shop at their lab. Then he trained as a Licensed Dispensing Optician. From there he worked for Alta View Optical, Knighton Optical, and then as Manager of the optical lab at the Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah until his retirement.

Chuck was always willing to help a friend or neighbor in need. Often putting off what needed to be done at his own home. Chuck could fix almost anything. Billie would ask him to fix something that seemed unrepairable and he usually found a way.

Chuck served as the Director of the Bountiful Community Food Pantry for some time. The Panty started in a closet in the Bountiful Community Church. It soon outgrew the closet and reached a point that it needed to expand out of the gym and classrooms of the church. Chuck had friends who had the building “bones” for a new building. Chuck raised enough in donations from various kind people, foundations, and grants to build the building for the Food Pantry in its current location. It now serves many, many people in need of food. When Chuck stepped down as Director, he began driving the Pantry’s refrigerated truck. He and another volunteer would pick up “grocery rescue” food at 6:30 am from several local stores. Food that would have been discarded by the stores after reaching its sell by date. Thank you to the people who helped collect and unload.

He set an amazing example of caring to his family, all of whom he dearly loved.

Chuck is survived by his wife (Billie) of 58 years, sons Russ (Iryna) and Sean, grandsons Skyler (Sandra), Stephan (Alyssa), and Alexander, step-granddaughter Yuliya, step-great-grandchildren Diamond and Dylan, and great-grandson Noah. He is also survived by his sister Lois and her children Robin, Linda, and David. Chuck loved Billie’s family also and considered them his own.

Chuck chose to be cremated. Since he loved the Oregon cost and always wanted to live there, his two oldest grandsons will take some of his ashes and spread them on the beach there so that he can have his wish.

A Celebration of Life service will be at the Bountiful 7th Ward building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1250 South Main Street in Bountiful, Utah.
