Catherine Louise Brewer Manning Ledbetter

1952 – 2021

Our dear mother, nana and friend, Cathy, passed away peacefully on November 29th, 2021. Cathy was born March 7th 1952 to Edward “Bob” Seth Brewer and Thelma Louise Perry Brewer in El Paso Texas. She was the oldest of 5 siblings. Cathy was an active child, who taught herself to play the piano and excelled at softball. She loved all animals big and small, from horses to house spiders. Cathy graduated from Weber High School in 1970. She later received her Registered Nursing degree from Weber State University.  Cathy had a passion for nursing and especially loved working with babies in the NICU. If there was a baby in any room, Cathy was right there holding and loving it. Cathy was a lifelong member of the LDS church where she served faithfully and made many great friends.

The light of Cathy’s life was being a mother to her 3 children, Brady, Shelese and Bryce. Cathy was a single mother for most of her adult life, often working several jobs at a time until she had a spinal cord injury that left her partially paralyzed and eventually in a wheelchair. This was just the start of many medical trials throughout her lifetime. She fought so hard for so many years. Through it all she miraculously stayed upbeat and positive. She rarely complained of her chronic pain, and always tried to see the best in every situation. She had a smile on her face and a kind word to say to anyone she met.

Cathy loved everyone. She added many surrogate family members throughout her life, and judged no one. She was the perfect example of unconditional love and acceptance. She made friends everywhere she went, and had many lifelong friendships that became her family.  Her favorite role was ‘Nana’ to her 7 grandchildren, Bridger, Boston, Oaklee, Connor, Tristen, Hailey and Heidi, with several more “adopted” kids and grandkids along the way. Cathy loved to crochet, and made many beautiful blankets, hats and more. She loved old western movies, and would listen to Christmas music all year long. The 4th of July was her favorite holiday and she went to every parade and firework show she could.

Cathy is proceeded in death by her son, Brady Manning, both of her parents, Edward “Bob” Brewer and Thelma Reeve, her 3 sisters, Karen Child, Corrie Martinez and Kaye Garcia. Cathy is survived by her daughter Shelese (Ryan) Quick, her son Bryce Manning, and Daughter in law Megan Manning. Her Brother Allen (Chris) Brewer, her adopted brother Derek (Jodi) Decker, and her 7 grandchildren, Bridger, Boston and Oaklee Misner, Connor and Tristen Quick, and Hailey and Heidi Manning. Many nieces and nephews and her very close friends.

Cathy started a legacy of unconditional love and acceptance that will live on. We know that she is finally whole and was welcomed by many happy reunions.
