Brian Kent Larsen

October 2, 1979 — November 24, 2020

Brian Kent Larsen passed away from complications of end stage liver failure, at the University of Utah Hospital on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. He was 41 years old.
Brian was the eighth of nine children born on October 2, 1979, to Robert James Larsen and Susan Ann Keddington Larsen. Brian was born a big baby and grew into a big man, with an even bigger heart.
Brian loved playing sports. Starting as early as he could, he followed his 5 older brothers into Junior Jazz basketball, little league baseball, pee wee football and youth soccer. He excelled in baseball and football. He was left handed, which he used to his advantage as the pitcher of the baseball team and quarterback of the football team at Viewmont High School. He graduated Viewmont in 1998.
Brian loved music and was passionate about his favorite band, Green Day. He loved to see bands perform at live concerts. He had a room in his home where he covered the walls, floor to ceiling with his favorite CD covers.
Brian was an extremely talented artist. While in elementary school, a concerned principal called home about a piece he had submitted for the Reflections contest. The principal was suspicious that a parent had drawn it for him, which wasn’t the case.
Brian was Uncle, ‘Tio,’ to 35 nieces and nephews. These were among the most important relationships of his life. As each child graduated high school, Brian would draw a portrait of them. He drew each of the boy’s pictures of them in the style of the area they served on their missions.
Brian served an LDS mission in Leon, Guanajuato Mexico from 1999-2001. He loved learning to speak Spanish and found excuses to use it as often as possible. Upon returning from Mexico, he worked at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City. One evening, after work, Brian attended a blues concert at the Dead Goat Saloon. Too shy to approach him, his future mother-in-law took the reins and introduced him to his future wife, Brooke Wilson. Brooke and Brian were married in June, 2002, and had many happy years together. Brooke and Brian were divorced in mid-2020, but remained good friends.
Brian suffered from alcoholism, and he battled his demons to the best of his ability until they finally took him. He was preceded in death by his mother Susan, his mother-in-law Jo Wilson, and his sweet dog Zoe. He is survived by his ex-wife, Brooke Larsen, father Robert, brothers and sisters, Robert Jr. (Molly) Larsen, Jennifer (Michael) Brooks, Matthew (Melissa) Larsen, Michael (Sherrelyn) Larsen, Scott (Jennifer) Larsen, Mark Larsen, Marilee (Mitchell) Brooks, and Melissa (Chad) Glover, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Chad and Lindsie Walker and Justin and Katie Bates, his dog Jack and his 35 nieces and nephews. We will have a Celebration of Life in the spring/summer, 2021.
The family would especially like to thank Brooke, for the love and support she unwaveringly provided Brian. We want to thank the caregivers at the University of Utah Hospital for their compassionate care of Brian.
