Blaine Thompson

April 26, 1931 — March 1, 2021

 

Blaine Thompson passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, March 1st 2021. Blaine was a compassionate, wise, loving, and spiritual individual.  He will be greatly missed and leave a large void in the lives of all who knew him.

Blaine was born April 26th, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Kenneth and Estela Holt Thompson. He was the youngest of three children.  The family moved to Beaver, Utah when Blaine was 2 year old. His father passed away shortly thereafter. Blaine and his siblings Iris Mae and Kenneth Jr were lovingly cared for by their wonderful mother, “Stella” Thompson.

Blaine graduated from Beaver High School in 1949.  He was an excellent student and participated in music, athletics and student government; as well as many other activities. He loved to sing! He sang in many musicals in high school, weddings and funerals in the community.

After graduation he returned to Salt Lake City, Utah to continue his education.  He earned a degree in Accounting and Business Administration.

Blaine married his high school sweetheart, Irene Roberts in the Salt Lake Temple on September 15th, 1950.

After graduation he worked for the State of Utah as a tax auditor.  Three years later he had the opportunity to work for Interstate Motor Line (IML). Blaine was hired to establish a new office n Portland, Oregon.  Five years later he was transferred to the California Oakland bay area to open another office for IML.  Five years later Blaine was transferred back to Salt Lake City, Utah to work in the General Office Revenue Accounting. Later he became controller of the Eagle Division at IML.  Blaine established a credit union for the drivers and employees of the company.  Thirteen years before retiring he went to work for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he worked in Budget and Finance in the Family History department.

Blaine loved the gospel and service in the church.  He served a mission with his companion Irene in the mission office of the California Arcadia mission. Together they served a mission at the Museum of Church History and Art for 12 years.  He served in ward bishoprics, ward clerk, priesthood leadership, Gospel Doctrine teacher, stake clerk, and stake auditor.

Blaine loved good music, reading history and studying the scriptures.  He loved to travel and cruise with family and friends.  He spent many beautiful summers at their Laguna Beach Condominium and Iron Blossom Lodge.  He spent many happy days with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren water skiing and fishing on his boat.  But never on Sunday!

He is survived by his sweetheart and eternal companion Irene, and his children Vickie Johnson (Jerome), Kevin (Tena) and Stephen (Christine). His posterity at this time is: 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Blaine was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Debra Mae Robinson, his grandsons Noland and Nathan Beesley and granddaughter Nicole Beesley.

Viewing and funeral services will be held at Russon Mortuary.  1585 W. 300 S. Syracuse, Utah, Saturday March 6th, 2021.  The viewing will begin at 10am, followed by the funeral services at 11:00am.
