Barbara Claire Kinnan Stott

May 7, 1930 — May 23, 2021

On May 23, 2021, heaven just got a little brighter with the arrival of our beloved mother, grandma, great-grandma, wife, sister and friend, Barbara Claire Kinnan Stott.

Barbara was born May 7, 1930 in Seattle, Washington to Arthur Houston Kinnan and Luca Cole Collins. She had one sister, Marjorie, whom she tagged along with as a youngster. She always had good memories of her childhood, attending five cent movies with her friends, hanging out with her cousin Marilyn and sister and playing with her collie dogs. She loved school and noted on many occasions that she excelled in her social skills much more than academics. Barbara was extremely close to her mother as her father left the family when she was only one. Her mother taught her how to sew, iron and clean which came in handy later in life as a means to help with family finances.

On August 14, 1948, Barbara married Lester Vern Ocheltree in Seattle, Washington, and they had two beautiful children: Deborah Louise and Jeffrey L. She was later divorced and moved to California for a fresh start. She started working as a bank teller where she met Earl, her future husband. He asked her out on a date and the rest is history. They married April 17, 1954 and after four sets of missionaries she finally was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 30, 1965.  Her marriage was later solemnized in Los Angeles Temple on November 17, 1966. They had 3 wonderful children: Ronald Reed, Robert Alan and Karen Ann.

In 1971, Barbara and Earl made a decision to move to Utah for a wonderful job opportunity for Earl. They settled in the Bountiful area where they were initially members of the Bountiful 13th ward. The wards were split, and a new ward created which became their new ward family, the Bountiful 53rd ward. Barbara adored her new home, family, friends, neighbors and ward. She enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors, painting, decorating, studying the scriptures, genealogy, traveling and shopping with friends. Barbara never turned down a chance to go “dinging” (another word for shopping). She loved the holidays, wrapping presents and baking her “signature” thumbprint cookies.

In 1991, her and Earl’s life turned upside down when he had an accident leaving him a quadriplegic. With tender loving care she took care of Earl in their home until his passing in 1998.

Barbara was the giver of all givers and never wasted an opportunity to serve her family, friends, neighbors or church. She served in many capacities, whether it was as the Relief Society president, Young Women’s president, Primary and Mutual teacher, Stake Camp Director or in the Davis County Mutual for the Handicap presidency. Her favorite calling always involved working with the youth and she was happiest when serving others.  Barbara loved her Savior, her dear family and many friends and was loved by scores of those she served, served with, and enjoyed friendships with.

She was preceded in death by her eternal companion Earl, son Jeffrey, parents, sister Marjorie and many other extended family members. She is survived by her children: Debi (Ron)-Dysart, Iowa; Ron (Patti)-Nibley, Utah; Rob (Phyllis)-Sulphur, Louisiana and Karen-Bountiful, Utah. Grandchildren: David (Heather), Melanie (Jodi), Silas (Amelia), Zac (Ashley), Amber (Tyler), Brett (Camille), Carson, Chase, Matthew and Anna (Avel). Great Grandchildren: Milo, Lyla, Aidan, Owen, Kalia, Camden, Jordan, Lainey, Kinsley, Kennedy, Skylar, Aisling and Bryson, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

A celebration of her life will be held Friday, May 28, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bountiful 53rd ward, 1350 N 650 E, Bountiful. Masks are required at the funeral. A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main St, Bountiful where friends and family may visit. Please note that a public viewing will NOT be held the day of the funeral. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.

For those unable to attend the life celebration service in person, a live broadcast can be seen on the Russon Mortuary & Crematory Facebook page. The live broadcast will also be posted below at around 9:50 a.m.

The family would like to thank Rocky Mountain Hospice for their help and support during this time. We send our love to her CNA, Raelynn who gave her the loving care she deserved. We would also like to thank neighbors, friends and the ward family for all their love and support.
