Arola Bott McDonald, a resident of Bountiful for fifty four years, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2006, in Bountiful at the age of 92. She was born October 26, 1914 in a residence, which was part of an early fort, in Brigham City, Box Elder County, Utah. She is the daughter of Lorenzo J and Hazel Barker Bott. She married Leonard Webb McDonald on her 26th birthday in the Logan LDS Temple. Arola graduated, valedictorian, from Box Elder High School and continued her education at Utah State University, graduating in home economics. She interned, as a dietician, at St. Luke?s Hospital and later worked at Mount Sinai Hospital both in New York City. Arola was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and had many church callings, serving in Jr. Sunday School and Relief Society. She was always involved in civic and volunteer organizations. She was captain of her Daughter of Utah Pioneers camp from 2004-2006. For 38 years, she volunteered every week at the LDS Hospital. She served as President of the LDS Volunteer Auxiliary Board 1979-1980 and also served four two-year terms on the State Volunteer Auxiliary Board. At the time of her death she was serving on the LDS Volunteer Auxiliary Board. Being a wife, mother and homemaker were important to Arola. She loved crocheting, knitting, sewing, crafts and traveling. Genealogy was a favorite pastime; she learned Danish to help research records of her ancestors. She wrote many family histories and helped organize family reunions. Arola is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard W. McDonald, her husband of almost sixty years. She is survived by three children: Dr. James B. Kathleen, Provo; Mary Ann Ebbeler, Bountiful; Dr. David G. Sherrie, Bellevue, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren: and all of her siblings: LaVone Quig Nielson, Bountiful; Max Bott, Brigham City; and Helyn Keith Boyer, Brigham City. There will be a viewing on Tuesday evening from 6:00 ? 8:00 P.M. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at the LDS Ward Chapel, 650 South 200 East Mill Street in Bountiful where friends may call from 1:45 – 2:45 P.M., prior to the services. Interment will be Friday November 24, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. in the Heber City Cemetery.
