Richard Wayne Hansen

June 13, 1957 ~ June 8, 2019 (age 61)

Richard Wayne Hansen, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Gatos, California. Born in Blackfoot, Idaho on June 13, 1957 to Lynn Wayne Hansen and Portia Hiatt Hansen, Richard was the third of eight children. His family moved to Bountiful, Utah when Richard was six years old. He graduated in 1975 from Bountiful High where he was the school Sterling Scholar in Vocational Education. Richard excelled at football and wrestling, and was active in Scouting, earning his Eagle at age 14. He also had a gift for singing and enjoyed performing in Madrigals and choir.
 
After serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Washington State from 1976 to 1978, Richard attended Utah State University where he met his sweetheart, Leah Joy Martin. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 30, 1979. Their much loved son, Lynn Jay, was born in 1989 while they were living in Wisconsin. The family moved to San Jose in 1992 for Richard's work in the automotive testing industry, a job he loved that took him around the country and the globe for more than two decades. For the last 12 years he worked as an insurance auditor in the San Jose, California area.
 
Richard was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings and leadership positions over the years. He was known and loved for his quiet, gentle spirit and his willingness to serve others in any way he could.
 
Richard is survived by his wife of 40 years, Leah; and his son, Lynn Jay; his mother, Portia Hansen and 7 siblings: David (Cindy) Hansen, Lynne (Michael) Goodwin, Alan Hansen, Kae Hansen, Adele Hansen, Holly Hansen, and Russell Hansen.
 
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Bountiful 9th and 31st Wards Chapel, 585 East Center Street, where a viewing will be held from 10:00 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will follow at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, where Richard will be laid to rest near his father. A memorial service for Richard will be held at a later date in Cupertino, California.
