Paul Mitchell Challis passed away on May 2, 2018 in Salt Lake City after a valiant fight with several health problems. He was born on January 13, 1951 in Salt Lake City. He spent most of his childhood and adolescent years in Cedar City, Utah an area that always had a special place in his heart. He served in the France Switzerland Mission from 1970 to 1972. Upon returning home he obtained a degree in communications from Southern Utah State College in 1975. He was a skilled photographer, journalist, and editor and shared his talents over the next 40 years at various newspaper publications including The Spectrum, Davis County Clipper, and the Standard-Examiner.
He married Toni Juliene Lowder on February 11, 1977 in the Provo, Utah Temple. They lived in Salt Lake City, St. George, and Cedar City before settling long-term in Bountiful.
Paul was an avid sports lover. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, writing poetry, playing games, and compiling family history.
Paul has now been reunited with his sweetheart, Toni, who passed away 15 years ago. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Ruth, and a brother, Melvin Lee.
Paul loved his family and is survived by his son, Paul Jr. (Eliza), his daughter, Ashley, brothers, Art (Vicki) and John (Julie), sister, Joy and grandchildren, Peter, Aaron, Claire, Lilly, Evelyn and August.
Paul was a man of strong faith in his Heavenly Father and in his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a humble giant and built a legacy that will never be forgotten due to his many years of exemplary service to his family, friends, colleagues, and ward members.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Bountiful 15th Ward, 1250 South Main. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful and Saturday morning 11:30 am - 12:45 pm at the church prior to services. Interment-Salt Lake City Cemetery.
