Herbert Bruno Schreiter passed away peacefully at home on 31 July 2019, with his wife, Diane, at his side. He was born 18 April 1938 in Brooklyn, New York, to Kurt Alfred Schreiter and Martha Lena Braun. At age five the family moved to Cache Valley, Utah. Those happy childhood years were among Herb's fondest memories. Later the family settled in South Salt Lake, where Herb played football and basketball at Granite High.
His interest in maps and geography influenced his desire to see the world. He later did so while serving three years in the US Navy, as an Electrician's Mate on the USS Cutlass submarine. He attended the University of Utah and later graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Landscape Architecture. His interests included architecture, interior design, landscaping, submarine history and family history. He loved designing home projects, building things and working in his garage shop.
Diane, his wife of almost 25 years, was his best buddy, and together they have 7 children. His grandparents left a legacy of family history and temple work, which he and Diane continued in their service as workers in the Bountiful Utah LDS Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; sisters Dolores Hostman (Karl) and Norma Price Dastrup (Mack); brother David Schreiter (Wendy); children, Lori Dockum Markle (Jeffrey), Paul Schreiter (Karen), Vicky Gubler (Boyd), Aimee Schreiter-Ryan, Tiffany Wongshaiboon (Sombat), Natalie Bingham (Seth), Cheryl Cortegiani; and 20 grandchildren.
There will be a private family viewing on Monday, August 5, 2019 at 10 a.m., at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah. A graveside service at the Bountiful City Cemetery will follow at 11 a.m. The Bountiful Cemetery is located at 2224 S. 200 W., Bountiful, Utah.
