Rodney Pearce SorensenApril 28, 1922 ~ September 29, 2017 (age 95)
Rodney Pearce Sorensen, age 95, passed away of natural causes on September 29, 2017 at his home. He was born April 28, 1922 in Montpelier, Idaho to Clarence R. Sorensen and Jennie Pearce. He married the beautiful Norma Springer from Bountiful, UT on Sept. 16 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple… a "Forever Marriage" recently celebrating their 74th wedding anniversary.
Rod was an industrious child that found much to do in his youth. He started working at an early age shoveling snow, gathering metals or anything that he could sell to make a penny. At age 11 he sold Deseret News papers, and worked in a grocery store and the age of 13 spending all his spare time delivering groceries around Rock Springs, Wyo. in his red wagon.
He graduated from Rock Springs High School with honorable mention for his electrical apprentice-ship job with U.P.R.R. coal mines, and the completion of ground school aviation from which he won a flight scholarship both while attending HS. He continued to fly a good many years of his life.
Rod spent three years in the service including one year flying in the Navy Air Corp. He was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities from Scout Master, Sunday school, Priesthood leader and lifetime home teacher and many years serving in the High Priest group leadership. He was active in Church service until his death. He frequently bore his testimony to family, friends, or strangers.
Rod was a journey-man, machinist and millwright. He was an inventor, designer and builder of many things. He was the neighbor-hood handyman. He had an attitude "Yes. I can do it" and most of the time he did. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Norma, four sons and one daughter: Gregory (Karla), Cathy (Ron) Burns, Danny (Allyn), Gary (Jo), and Lane Sorensen. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, and six of his eight siblings: Frank (Cheryl), Norma (Ed), Hazel (Charlie) Werner, and Bernice (Jay) Stevenson, Russell, and Marylynn. Living are Ann Marie (Ken) Elders, and Beverly (Bill) Stenberg.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 4th, at the Kimball Mills Ward 650 So. 200 East (Mill Street), Bountiful, UT., where a viewing will be held from 9:00 -10:30 a.m. prior to services.
