Lauretta Frank TannerMarch 19, 1933 ~ May 1, 2017 (age 84)
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Lauretta Frank Tanner, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2017 with her daughters at her side. She is now at peace after a long battle with dementia. She was born on March 19, 1933 in Providence, Utah to Seth Clinton and Grace Emily Astle Frank. She attended Providence Elementary and South Cache High School. After high school, she attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah, pursuing her education in home economics with an emphasis in textiles and sewing. While attending USU, she met Doyle Boyd Tanner and they disrupted their Institute class on a regular basis while having their own private conversations! They were later married in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on January 7, 1953. She worked as a switchboard operator for the phone company in Logan as Doyle went to school. Later, Lauretta and Doyle moved to South Dakota while he was stationed there in the U.S. Air Force. They met many wonderful friends during this time and many have remained lifelong friends. After three years in South Dakota, they moved back to Logan where Doyle finished his Master’s Degree.
Employment moved them to Twin Falls, and later Burley, Idaho before settling in the Kaysville and Fruit Heights, Utah area in 1967. Lauretta completed her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Burley, Idaho when her youngest child began school. Later in Utah, she completed her Registered Nursing degree (RN) while working as an LPN at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, and then continued a long career as an RN for the next 30+ years. She spent most of these years at South Davis Hospital which later became Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah. While working full time, she managed to keep a manicured yard; grow a large, productive garden; can and preserve all the produce from the garden; sew continually--clothing, quilting and domestic items; and decorate beautiful wedding cakes. Lauretta remained very committed and active in the LDS church and held various positions throughout her life. She was always quick to serve others. Lauretta was a wonderful mother, wife and homemaker. She taught her three daughters many homemaking skills and passed along her work ethic. Her main pride and joy were her family. She and Doyle had four daughters, three of which grew to adulthood. After she retired, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, whether camping, sewing, gardening or just taking long walks with any or all members of the family.
Lauretta is survived by her three daughters, Sandra Walton (David), Kayalauna Kuhn, Dianne Morgan (Bryan): 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Yvonne Wright, Effie Wilhelm (Louis), Collene Ashe (Tom) and Charlene Knighton and brothers, Brent Frank (Sandra) and Louis Frank (Oralee). She is preceded in death by her husband, Doyle, her first infant daughter, and her parents. She will be greatly missed by her family and those who have known her and been recipients of her talents and service.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on May 20th, 2017 at the LDS Chapel on 77 South Orchard Drive 1325 E., Fruit Heights, Utah, 84037. A greeting line will be from 10:00-10:45 AM prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM in the Providence City Cemetery, 700 River Heights Blvd., River Heights, Utah 84321.
