Carl Roger CreerOctober 30, 1942 ~ June 15, 2017 (age 74)
Carl Roger Creer, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 15, 2017. Carl was born on October 30, 1942, in Ogden, Utah, to parents, Roger Bradford Creer and Norma Evans Creer. He was a brother to Elaine Bird, Norma Harbertson, and Richard Creer. Carl grew up in Ogden, Utah attending Polk Elementary, Central Junior High School, Ogden High School (graduating in 1960), and Weber State College (Bachelor’s in Business Management). He was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Norma, and brother Richard.
On August 18, 1965, Carl married Bonnie Lea Mason in the Salt Lake Temple, where their eternal marriage began more than 51 years ago. His love and devotion to his wife was a shining example to his entire family. Carl is loved and survived by his wife, Bonnie, and their 5 children, his son Michael Creer and wife Marina Rodin, his son Jeffrey Creer and wife Kiersten Creer, his son Ryan Creer and wife Karisa Creer, his daughter Allison Short and husband Brad Short, and his daughter Angela Danowski. Carl is the proud “Papa” to 20 grandchildren. His wife, his children and their spouses, and his beautiful grandchildren were his greatest joy!
As a young man, Carl loved horses and riding the hills of Mount Ogden. He was a member of Mount Ogden Junior Posse where he did a lot of barrel racing. He also loved to swim and play tennis. Later, Carl became an avid golfer and played often with his many friends and associates.
Carl was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the British Mission from 1962-1964 serving much of his time in and around London, England. Throughout his life, he took the opportunity to serve in so many callings in the LDS church, and will be remembered for teaching others what he loved.
Carl’s work career in the retail merchandising took him and his family to Minneapolis, Minnesota for 5 ½ years and then to Boston, Massachusetts for 6 ½ years, before they returned to Utah where he lived and worked and played for the rest of his life.
One of Carl’s favorite activities was serving his community as a Rotarian. As a member of the Sugar House Rotary in Salt Lake City, Carl was involved in many activities, but he truly loved to be involved with the “Chili Open” charity golf tournament. As an active member of the Bountiful Rotary, Carl dedicated many hours building the “Coats for Kids” program.
Those who knew Carl best, and those who had the good fortune to interact with him wherever that may be, were strongly influenced by Carl’s positive “can do” attitude and perspective. He loved to lighten up a room with a funny or positive story. He loved to give hearty handshakes and give short “cheers” especially to his grandchildren. In every situation, Carl wanted everyone to walk away with a smile on their face and feeling good.
Carl’s family expresses its sincere and most heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for the doctors and medical team at Huntsman Cancer Institute, who took great care of Carl over the last 5 years. They were absolutely wonderful people!
